The Copy Letter probe is administered class-wide, in small groups, or individually by the teacher or assessor. The assessor guides students to correctly complete a sample item and then begins the assessment. Students copy uppercase letters for one minute, completing as many as possible in the allocated time. The letters are arranged in random order and specific scoring instructions are provided. Scoring may be completed in 5-10 minutes for an entire class and inter-scorer agreement has been demonstrated to be very high following the scoring criteria (agreement in a published study ranged from 96 to 100% agreement between independent scorers). Probe orders should include the assessment manual for administration and directions.
