The Discrimination probe is administered class-wide, in small groups, or individually. The Discrimination probe requires students to look at a choice of four objects, letters, or numbers and identify the one of four choices that is different or does not belong. The capability to rapidly categorize objects and recognize the one that is different is a very important pre-requisite for reading, writing and math activities. Following standard administration procedures, the teacher or assessor guides students to correctly complete a sample item and then students independently complete as many items as they can in one minute. The probe is scored as number correct per minute. Probe orders should include the assessment manual for administration and directions.
